Lu Yang's 'Delusional World' Livestream Premieres Through ACMI Partnership

digital · 2026-04-20

Between March 24 and April 14, 2021, ArtReview showcased three pieces by Lu Yang: Delusional Mandala (2015), Delusional Crime and Punishment (2016), and Delusional World (2020). Based in Shanghai, Lu Yang has achieved international acclaim, having exhibited at venues like the Venice Biennale and Centre Pompidou. Their artistic style, which draws inspiration from manga and anime, explores mukokuseki through customizable avatars. Recognized by Asia Art Archive and critic Barbara Pollack, Delusional World was originally intended as a live performance in February 2020 but was instead streamed online in November 2020. Future projects include a performance at the Garage Museum in Moscow and solo exhibitions at Jane Lombard Gallery and ARoS Aarhus Art Museum.
