Lu Lei's 'Wander Giant' Exhibition at Shanghart Shanghai Presents Absurdist Sculptural Universe
The exhibition 'Wander Giant' by Beijing artist Lu Lei took place at Shanghart in Shanghai from November 6, 2019, until March 15, 2020. It comprised three sections of sculptural pieces crafted from industrial materials. 'Chapter 1: Game of the Giants' featured 148 sphere-like forms and oxidized aluminum models. In 'Chapter 2: Reveries of the Giants,' cast-aluminum sculptures with glass lightbulb heads were displayed. 'Chapter 3: The Giant Walking' showcased curving concrete walls encircling an aluminum fountain with 32 taps. All artworks were produced in 2019, drawing inspiration from the artist's childhood fantasies. The exhibition, known as 'Absurd Fiction' in Chinese, delved into cosmic themes and industrial aesthetics. Fi Churchman reviewed it in the Spring 2020 edition of ArtReview Asia.
