Love Happens Here: London City Hall Exhibition Celebrates LGBTQI Community

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has launched 'Love Happens Here', an exhibition at City Hall celebrating the LGBTQI community, curated by Karen McQuaid of The Photographer's Gallery. The show marks the anniversary of the 1967 decriminalization of homosexuality in England and Wales. It features works by photographers including Ian David Baker, Reggie Blennerhassett, Sunil Gupta, Emily Rose England, Antony Luvera, Kate Eliott, and Tania Olive. Baker's images capture early Pride events from the 1980s, while Blennerhassett documents the Greater London Council's Lesbian and Gay Centre, founded in 1984. Gupta presents portraits of couples at home, poetry, and protest imagery. England photographs the club night scene. The exhibition uses the Gilbert font, designed for Gilbert Baker, creator of the rainbow flag in 1978, available via Creative Commons. The show runs until July 28, 2017, at City Hall, The Queen's Walk, London SE12AA, open Monday to Thursday 8:30-18:00, Friday 8:30-17:30, closed weekends.
