Louvre to Stage First Major Fashion Exhibition in 2025

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The Louvre Museum in Paris will host its first-ever exhibition dedicated solely to fashion, running from January 24 to July 21, 2025. Curated by Olivier Gabet, director of the decorative arts department, the show will feature around sixty garments and thirty accessories from the 1960s onward, including pieces by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Balenciaga, and Yohji Yamamoto. The exhibition aims to explore the relationship between fashion and the museum's collections, drawing on over 20,000 objects such as armor, ceramics, tapestries, and jewelry to highlight how historical artifacts inspire contemporary designers. Gabet emphasized that fashion design serves as a bridge between generations and museums, offering a fresh perspective on ancient works. The show will reference explicit and implicit artistic influences from 40 international fashion designers, including Lee Alexander McQueen's passion for Renaissance tapestries and Jonathan Anderson's interest in ceramics and craftsmanship.
