Louvre ticket price to increase 29% in January 2024
The Louvre Museum in Paris will raise its general admission ticket price from €17 to €22 starting January 2024, a 29% increase and the first price hike in seven years. Free entry will continue for Louvre members (annual subscription to Amis du Louvre costs €80), residents of the European Economic Area aged 18–25, certain professionals such as teachers working in France, artists affiliated with Maison des Artistes or the International Association of Art, and disabled visitors. The museum stated the increase will fund free admissions and cover maintenance costs, without referencing the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics (July 26–August 11) and Paralympics (August 28–September 8). In Paris, metro tickets will double and hotel rates for summer 2024 have tripled compared to usual prices. In 2023, the Louvre attracted between 7.5 and 8.5 million visitors. The museum houses iconic works including Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa (1503), Alexandros of Antioch's Venus de Milo (150–125 BC), Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres's Grande Odalisque (1814), and Eugène Delacroix's Liberty Leading the People (1830).
