Louvre Reopens with Limited Access to Mona Lisa
On July 6, 2020, the Louvre Museum in Paris will welcome back visitors after being closed for four months. Guests are required to wear masks (with the exception of children under 11), observe social distancing, and purchase tickets online. Access is available through two entrances: the Pyramid and the Richelieu entrance for members. Large bags are prohibited as cloakrooms are not in service. Guided tours can accommodate groups of up to 25 people. Approximately 70% of the museum's 45,000 square meters is accessible, featuring various antiquities and artworks. However, sections of Islamic art and certain historical collections remain off-limits. Iconic pieces, including the Mona Lisa, have restricted access, allowing only two visitors at a time. Director Jean-Luc Martinez reported a loss of nearly 40 million euros and expects a gradual recovery.
