Louvre Reopens After 5 Days, Loses 1.5 Million Euros
The Louvre, the world's most visited museum with around 10 million annual visitors, has reopened after a forced 5-day closure due to flooding threats from the Seine. The closure resulted in a loss of 120,000 visitors and approximately 1.5 million euros in revenue. As a preventive measure, 35,000 artworks were moved to storage. The Department of Islamic Art remains closed as restoration continues. French insurance companies estimate the cost of the torrential rains and floods between 900 million and 1.4 billion euros. The Musée d'Orsay has also reopened.
