Louvre Abu Dhabi Announces Fifth Art Here Exhibition and Richard Mille Art Prize with Japanese Expansion

exhibition · 2026-04-22

Louvre Abu Dhabi will present the fifth edition of its Art Here exhibition alongside the Richard Mille Art Prize, with submissions accepted from February 26 to April 30. This iteration broadens participation to include artists from Japan alongside those from the GCC and MENA regions, strengthening cultural connections between the UAE and Japan. Swiss-Japanese curator Sophie Mayuko Arni will organize the exhibition under the theme 'Shadows,' which examines the interplay of light and dark through cultural traditions from both regions. The concept draws inspiration from Japanese In'Ei aesthetics and Gulf architectural elements like mashrabiyya windows. Sculptural and immersive outdoor installations will be featured beneath the museum's palm tree-inspired dome. Manuel Rabaté, Director of Louvre Abu Dhabi, highlighted the initiative's growth and partnership with Richard Mille, noting that 30 artists have been celebrated and four winners recognized since its inception. Peter Harrison, CEO of Richard Mille EMEA, emphasized the significance of opening the prize to Japanese artists, reflecting strong cultural ties between the UAE and Japan. The exhibition aims to reinterpret traditional shadow aesthetics in a contemporary context.
