Louisiana Domestic Shooting Leaves Eight Children Dead, Mother Wounded

In Shreveport, Louisiana, a domestic shooting early on Sunday resulted in the deaths of eight children and left their mother critically wounded. The gunman, identified as Shamar Elkins, was shot dead by police following a pursuit. According to Shreveport Police Department spokesman Chris Bordelon, Elkins first shot the mother before killing the children, seven of whom were his own. The victims ranged in age from one to approximately twelve years old. Another woman was also critically injured in the incident. Bordelon described the scene as extensive and unprecedented, confirming the event was entirely domestic in nature. Elkins had a prior arrest in 2019 related to firearms, though police noted no known history of domestic violence issues. The investigation remains ongoing.
