Louisa Babari's 'AFRICA' at [mac] Marseille Explores North African Mythologies
From January 3, 2027, to May 15, 2026, the [mac] Museum of Contemporary Art in Marseille will feature an exhibition titled AFRICA, curated by French artist Louisa Babari, who draws inspiration from her Algerian and Russian heritage. The exhibit delves into the rich mythology and history of North Africa, showcasing a mix of photography, visuals, and sound that intertwine fact with fiction. Developed in partnership with the Passages Contemporary Art Center and supported by the Pierre Barbizet Conservatory, this event is part of the Grand Arles Express initiative during the Rencontres d’Arles and has received the Saison Méditerranée designation. Additionally, a sound project called Public Voices, created with Rhizome Art Center, will enhance the exhibition. In 2024, Babari's artwork was added to the museum's collection.
