Louis Vuitton Launches Mini Speedy for Monogram's 130th Anniversary

other · 2026-05-22

Louis Vuitton has released the Speedy Bandoulière 20 Bag, a mini version of its iconic Speedy silhouette, to celebrate the 130th anniversary of its monogram canvas. The monogram was invented in 1896 on waterproofed canvas to prevent counterfeiting of the house's checkered and striped trunks, but has since become one of the most counterfeited logos globally. For the anniversary, Vuitton created a new variation called Monogram Origine, which resembles a sketchy line-drawing on rough canvas. The Speedy shape traces back to 1930 when it was called 'Express', epitomizing a world on the move. In the 1960s, Audrey Hepburn requested a smaller version of the 30cm Express, leading to the Speedy's birth. Now, the bag is offered in a 20cm version, reflecting shrinking daily needs. The design was showcased in Nicolas Ghesquière's New York Cruise show, which explored pop art and pop culture. Ghesquière, creative director at Louis Vuitton, is fascinated by universality, fitting for a house with one of the most recognized emblems. The house has continuously reinvented its monogram through multiscale, multicolour remixes.
