Louis Cane’s Sculptural Revisions at Galerie Bernard Ceysson
Galerie Bernard Ceysson, with its third location in Paris, presents recent sculptures by Louis Cane from June 3 to August 1, 2009. The exhibition, reviewed by Jacques Beauffet in art press n°359 (September 2009), highlights Cane’s deep engagement with art history. Since the mid-1970s, Cane has undertaken a comprehensive re-reading of art history, now extending to sculpture. His works reference masters like Picasso, Matisse, Giacometti, de Kooning, and Rodin, employing diverse techniques and scales. The show includes about fifteen sculptures, notably "Super Marino," a bronze diving mask metaphorizing artistic risk, and "Papier tue-mouches," a flypaper piece in gilded bronze referencing Man Ray. Ceysson, known for supporting the Support/Surface generation, continues to showcase both historical and recent works of the group’s artists.
