Lotus Lobo's Lithography Legacy Explored in São Paulo Exhibition
Lotus Lobo presents 'Território Gravado' at Galeria Superfície in São Paulo, showcasing over 50 years of lithography work. The exhibition features 30 pieces, including three new works created specifically for the show. Lobo's journey with lithography began accidentally in 1962 at Escola Guignard in Belo Horizonte, where she later became the first woman to teach the technique. Her practice evolved from informal abstraction to Pop Art influences after visiting the 1967 São Paulo Biennial. A key period involved collaborations with a packaging factory in Juiz de Fora, where she used industrial tools to create color lithographs. The exhibition runs until November 9, with a guided tour by the artist and curator Marcelo Drummond scheduled for October 26. Lobo's work emphasizes the collective nature of lithography, developed through communal workshops in Tiradentes and her home studio.
