Lotus Lobo's 'Fabricação própria' at Sesc Pompeia explores industrial lithography and creative appropriation

Lotus Lobo's solo exhibition 'Fabricação própria' at Sesc Pompeia in São Paulo presents a panoramic view of her five-decade artistic research. Curated by Marcelo Drummond, the show juxtaposes historical works with newly commissioned pieces, focusing on her exploration of artistic and industrial lithography. Since 1969, Lobo has collected early 20th-century printing matrices from the Estamparia Juiz de Fora factory in Minas Gerais. Through appropriation and image manipulation, she transforms these industrial relics into artworks that reveal the creative potential of factory environments. The exhibition deliberately blurs lines between historical archive and contemporary creation, inviting viewers to question these distinctions. Danilo Santos de Miranda, director of Sesc São Paulo, notes the display connects contemporary art with early national design heritage, intertwining revelation and preservation. The show runs until January 30, 2022, with free admission requiring vaccination proof and mandatory mask usage.
