Lottozero Opens in Prato with Inside Lottozero Exhibition
Lottozero/textile laboratories, a new kunsthalle, laboratory, and co-working space, opens in Prato's Chinatown district, Macrolottozero, on October 15, 2016, during AMACI's 12th Giornata del Contemporaneo. Founded by sisters Tessa and Arianna Moroder, the 400-square-meter warehouse aims to support emerging textile design talent and revitalize one of Europe's major textile districts. The inaugural exhibition, Inside Lottozero, features thirteen international artists, predominantly women and debutants in Italy, exploring textile versatility through painting, installation, performance, video, photography, tapestry, and costume. Highlights include Kathrin Stumreich's Fabricmachine, which translates fabric textures into sound via light sensors; Nicole Miltner's Justaucorps, a tapestry replicating human skin tones; Mariana Sales's Body Looming photo series; Virginie Rebetez's Under Cover documenting South African funeral rituals; and Aldo Lanzini's crochet masks. A sleep concert from October 15 to 16, with five musicians adapting sounds to nighttime hours, accompanies the exhibition. The center will later host residencies for fashion designers and artists, and feature machinery for prototyping.
