Lost Highway Expedition Explores Balkan Borders Through Nomadic Voyaging

other · 2026-04-19

Between July 30 and August 24, 2006, the Lost Highway Expedition embarked on a unique journey through the Balkans, starting in Ljubljana and concluding in Sarajevo. Along the way, the team made stops in cities like Zagreb, Novi Sad, Belgrade, Skopje, Pristina, Tirana, and Podgorica. This initiative, organized by the School of Missing Studies and the Centrala Foundation, included a diverse group of artists and collaborators such as Azra Akšamija and Marc Neelen, as well as local partners. The aim was to address the geopolitical division in the former Yugoslavia through nomadic travel. Neelen posed questions about the future direction of the participants, while the expedition also tackled the idea of Balkanization, drawing on philosophical thoughts from figures like Deleuze and Hardt.
