Los Angeles: A Visual Lineage at Woodbury House Traces Graffiti History

The group exhibition 'Los Angeles: A Visual Lineage' at Woodbury House in London celebrated over half a century of LA graffiti history, featuring four artists: Charlie 'Chaz' Bojorquez, Estevan Oriol, Alex 'DEFER' Kizu, and Marquis 'RETNA' Lewis. Bojorquez, known as the 'Godfather' of Cholo writing, showed works from the 1990s to 2020s, including 'P./V. FOR LIFE' and 'LET THE CONVERSATION DESCRIBE THE COMPOSITION'. DEFER presented pieces like 'City of Champions' and a collaborative work with Oriol, 'LA Hands' (2011). Oriol displayed photographs from 2005–2020, including portraits of gang members, lowriders, and the other artists. RETNA contributed his signature calligraphic abstractions. The exhibition closed on April 24, 2026, but most works remain at Woodbury House.
