Loris Gréaud Revives Murano Furnace with Site-Specific Installation

exhibition · 2026-05-05

French artist Loris Gréaud (born 1979 in Eaubonne) has created a site-specific installation titled "The Unplayed Notes Factory" in a Murano furnace that had been closed for sixty years. Curated by Nicolas Bourriaud, the project is a special initiative of Glasstress, supported by the Fondazione Berengo. The installation immerses visitors in the original atmosphere of the former factory, with remnants of flames and heat, and pays homage to the ancient glassmaking tradition. Each element of the work reflects the artisanal techniques rooted in the island's history, featuring a light veil of smoke and an irregular carpet of glass spheres on the ceiling. The piece includes a simulation of past production activities, mediated by poetic artistic gestures, seductive light alternations, and a dense soundscape that accompanies the movements of light, fire, and the hands of master glassmakers working live during the opening days.
