Loris Cecchini's Waterbones installation unveiled at Chianti Observatory

On May 28, 2023, the monumental sculpture Waterbones by Loris Cecchini (Milan, 1969) will be unveiled at the Polifunzionale Observatory in the Chianti region near Florence. The site-specific installation consists of 3,000 steel modules placed on the observatory's roof, designed to evoke celestial movements and explore gravity, merging science and artistic expression. The work was created through digital design and industrial fabrication. It will be on view until November 30, 2023. The project is part of the cultural initiative Arte nel paesaggio, curated by Giada Rodani and Jade Vlietstra, involving the municipality of Barberino Tavernelle, the University of Florence, the Associazione Amici dell'OPC, the Associazione Achu di Semifonte, and the Associazione Arte Continua di San Gimignano. Cecchini previously installed Spindles near Prato's medieval walls in 2022. From September 30 to November 30, the Cappella di San Michele Arcangelo in Semifonte will host Semifonte, Parco di eredità paesaggistica, reviving a 1995 project by artist Evelien La Sud (Otterlo, 1950 – Siena, 2006) and architect Raimondo Gramigni, curated by Lara Vinca Masini. The chapel will display La Sud's crystal installation Impronte d'acqua and drawings for a baptismal font and a heritage park with nine stops dedicated to the Muses. The initiative uses the Particle app for interactive storytelling.
