Loris Cecchini's 'Leaps, gaps and overlapping diagrams' at Ca' Rezzonico, Venice

Loris Cecchini's exhibition 'Leaps, gaps and overlapping diagrams' at Ca' Rezzonico in Venice runs until March 31, 2025. Curated by Luca Berta and Francesca Giubilei, the show presents ten new works by the Milanese artist (born 1969), who blends architecture, design, science, and engineering with natural forms. Monumental climbing installations 'Waterbones' and 'Arborexence' envelop the external portego, while in the first-floor Ballroom, large resin structures dialogue with Baroque furnishings by Andrea Brustolon and frescoes by Giambattista Crosato and Girolamo Mengozzi Colonna. On the second floor, the 'Zigzags particles' telescope points toward Giandomenico Tiepolo's 1791 fresco 'Il mondo novo', which depicts spectators around a magic lantern. Cecchini's aluminum telescope invites a shift in perspective, mirroring Tiepolo's theme of exploring unknown places. The curators note that clouds in the frescoed ceilings by Tiepolo, Guarana, Crosato, and Diziani serve as intermediate units between real and virtual, echoing Cecchini's modular sculpture that adapts organically to space.
