Lorenzo Mattotti designs 52nd Barcolana poster after Marina Abramović
The 52nd edition of the Barcolana regatta, scheduled for October 11, 2020, in the Gulf of Trieste, features a poster by Italian illustrator and cartoonist Lorenzo Mattotti. Following Marina Abramović's 2018 poster depicting herself as a sailor with the slogan "Siamo tutti sulla stessa barca," Mattotti's work carries the motto "Together." The poster was commissioned by illycaffè, the event's sponsor and artistic director, which has a history of collaborating with artists for its Art Collection coffee cups. Massimiliano Pogliani, CEO of illycaffè, stated that Mattotti was asked to express the importance of togetherness and the joy of sailing, resulting in a poster that captures the culture of the sea and the sport of sailing. The Barcolana is a historic international regatta open to all, preceded by a calendar of events on land and online starting October 3. Previous posters include works by Michelangelo Pistoletto (2015), Gillo Dorfles (2016), Maurizio Galimberti (2017), Abramović (2018), and Olimpia Zagnoli (2019).
