Lorenzo Marini's interactive performance in Milan metro

artist · 2026-04-27

On May 22, 2020, artist Lorenzo Marini (born 1958 in Monselice) staged a live social media performance titled "Tell Me Your Name" at the Duomo metro station in Milan. Using oil and wax pastels, he wrote the names of passersby on a DynamicType advertising panel, part of his larger public art project composed of 6 alphabets and over 150 graphic symbols. The project, curated by Sabino Maria Frassà and realized in partnership with IGPDecaux and Cramum of Fondazione Cure Onlus, also extends to trams and shelters in Rome, Turin, and Florence. Marini, who is concurrently showing "Out of Words" at Gaggenau DesignElementi Hub, designed the work to last only 15 days—the standard duration for commercial posters—as a commentary on impermanence in the post-COVID era. The performance celebrated cities reviving after the pandemic and the joy of reconnecting.
