Lorenzo Lotto's Portraits Take Over Madrid's Prado
Until September 30, 2018, the Museo del Prado in Madrid is presenting the first significant exhibition dedicated to Lorenzo Lotto's portraits, which will subsequently travel to the National Gallery in London. Curated by Miguel Falomir and Enrico Maria dal Pozzolo, the exhibition comprises 38 paintings, 10 drawings, and approximately 15 artifacts from renowned institutions such as the Accademia Carrara and the Uffizi. The collection features works ranging from a late 15th-century portrait to Man with a Crossbow (1551–52), with notable pieces including portraits of Marsilio Cassotti, Andrea Odoni, and Lucrezia. Additionally, the exhibition includes objects from Lotto's era that reflect his artistic interests. Rediscovered by Bernard Berenson in 1895, Lotto is celebrated for his psychological insight.
