Lorenzo Lotto Exhibition in Brescia Dialogues with Local Renaissance Masters
From December 1, 2023 to April 7, 2024, the Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo in Brescia hosts 'Lorenzo Lotto. Incontri immaginati', an exhibition celebrating the Venetian Renaissance painter Lorenzo Lotto (1480–1557). The show places five works by Lotto—four on loan and one from the museum's own collection, the 'Adorazione dei pastori'—in dialogue with paintings by Brescian contemporaries Savoldo, Romanino, and Moretto. The exhibition is a highlight of the Bergamo Brescia Capitale Italiana della Cultura year and includes educational initiatives. The Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo itself has a dual history: it originated as the private collection of Count Paolo Tosio and later became Italy's first public collection of contemporary art. Renovated in 2018, its permanent collection spans from the 14th century to the 19th, featuring masterpieces by Lotto, Savoldo, Romanino, Moretto, Giacomo Ceruti, Canova, and Hayez. The exhibition aims to explore the artistic exchanges between Lotto and the Brescian school of the early 16th century.
