Lorenzo Lotto exhibition 'Il richiamo delle Marche' to open in Macerata

A major exhibition dedicated to Venetian painter Lorenzo Lotto (1480–1556/1557) will open in Macerata, Italy, titled 'LORENZO LOTTO: Il richiamo delle Marche'. Announced at a press conference at the Mibac in Rome, the project involves multiple institutions and aims to revitalize the Marche region after devastating earthquakes. The exhibition's central venue is Palazzo Buonaccorsi in Macerata, with 25 works displayed across eight other cities: Ancona, Cingoli, Jesi, Loreto, Mogliano, Monte San Giusto, Recanati, and Urbino. The winter opening is a deliberate strategy to destagionalize tourism. The show coincides with 'Lorenzo Lotto. Portraits', previously at the Prado in Madrid and now at the National Gallery in London. Curator Enrico Maria Dal Pozzolo (University of Verona) highlighted the rediscovery of 'San Girolamo nello Studio', a painting acquired in the 1970s by the Musei Civici di Bassano del Grappa and long relegated to storage due to doubts over its attribution. National Gallery of London curator Matthias Wivel described Lotto as an accessible artist who presents himself without filters. Speakers included Gianluca Vacca (Undersecretary for Cultural Heritage), Luca Ceriscioli (President of Marche Region), Romano Carancini (Mayor of Macerata), Maurizio Cecconi (Secretary General of Ermitage Italia), and Matthias Wivel.
