Lorenzo Giusti Curates 2024 Biennale Gherdëina in the Dolomites
Lorenzo Giusti, director of GAMeC in Bergamo, has been appointed curator of the ninth edition of Biennale Gherdëina, titled "The Parliament of Marmots," running from May 31 to September 1, 2024, in Val Gardena, Dolomites. The biennial, founded in 2008 by Doris Ghetta as a collateral event of Manifesta 7, will feature exhibitions, performances, workshops, and public artworks by artists from Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. The title draws from a Dolomite legend about the Fanes people and their alliance with marmots, emphasizing humanity's relationship with nature. The biennial is linked to the "Thinking Like a Mountain" project, inspired by Aldo Leopold, which extends to Bergamo and the Orobie Alps in 2024–2025. Giusti, an avid hiker, stated that ecological thought and Mediterranean migrations will frame the narrative. Eduard Demetz, president of Zënza Sëida, praised Giusti's communicative skills and sensitivity to local culture.
