Lorenza Bravetta on Italy's National Photography Strategy and Roman Photo Walks

Lorenza Bravetta, photographic advisor to Italian Minister of Culture Dario Franceschini, discusses the 'Passeggiate Fotografiche Romane' (Roman Photographic Walks), a decentralized event from October 14–16, 2017, supported by MiBACT and Rome's Assessorato alla Crescita culturale. The initiative maps Rome's photography scene across five macro-areas, each with a local coordinator, featuring exhibitions, guided tours, and performances. The program opens with Luigi Ghirri's 'Atlante' at MAXXI and closes with a video mapping performance at MACRO Testaccio. Bravetta outlines a broader national strategy: after two 'Stati generali della fotografia' in Rome and Reggio Emilia (April–May 2017) and regional meetings, a five-year 'Piano strategico di sviluppo della fotografia' will be presented soon. Six MiBACT directorates form a steering committee. The project aims to foster local and national collaborations, potentially expanding to other cities like Milan. Bravetta emphasizes 'memoria, identità, futuro' as keywords for valorizing Italy's photographic heritage, both historical and contemporary.
