Lorcan O'Neill Gallery Opens Second Space in Venice

The Roman gallery Lorcan O'Neill, founded in 2003, has opened a second Italian location in Venice, overlooking Ponte Pesaro in the Santa Croce district. The gallery, directed by Lorcan O'Neill and Laura Chiari, inaugurated its Venetian outpost during the opening days of the Biennale with an exhibition dedicated to British artist Richard Long (born 1945). The show includes a new sculpture by Long inspired by the white and red marbles historically used in Venetian palaces and basilicas. The exhibition runs from April 18 to April 21, after which the gallery will adopt regular hours (Tuesday to Saturday, 11 am to 7 pm). Long's works will remain on view until November, throughout the duration of the Biennale. Lorcan O'Neill represents a roster of international and Italian artists including Anselm Kiefer, Tracey Emin, Luigi Ontani, Emilio Prini, and Pietro Ruffo. The opening contributes to a shifting gallery geography in Venice, with recent arrivals including Chinese gallery Capsule, Parisian Galerie Negropontes, Bologna's MAGMA Gallery with a Project Space on Via Garibaldi, and Tommaso Calabro's new space at Palazzo Donà Brusa in Campo San Polo. Additionally, Palazzo Diedo, backed by Nicolas Berggruen, is set to open on April 20.
