LOOP: A Cinematic Spaceship Installation Lands in New York's Garment District

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Since February 16, 2018, a public art installation called LOOP has been on display in New York's Garment District, between 37th and 38th Streets, and it will be there until March 31, 2018. This piece, designed in 2016 for Montreal’s Luminothérapie festival, has a circular shape and two seats, giving it a look similar to a spacecraft. Visitors can use a central lever and a screen above to watch short films based on thirteen fairy tales, with the visuals and music changing based on their movements. The creators behind LOOP include Olivier Girouard, Jonathan Villeneuve, and several others. This project is part of The Garment District Space for Public Art, launched in 2010, supported by the NYC Department of Transportation’s art division.
