Long-lost David Bowie photo discovered in Stockport loft after 56 years
A long-lost photo of a young David Bowie from a 1970 gig in Stockport has resurfaced after 56 years. David Maynard, now 74, found it while cleaning out his loft because of a water leak. He was part of the Stockport Schools' Student Union that organized Bowie's performance at the Poco A Poco Club in Heaton Chapel. Maynard remembers Bowie, who had just hit the top five with 'Space Oddity,' as being 'quiet' and 'personable.' The original black-and-white shot has since been colorized and shows Bowie with seven sixth-form students. John Barratt from Stockport Music Story shared the find on social media, and it was later featured on Bowie's official Instagram. Maynard also hopes to reach Derek Martin, the press photographer from that night. A plaque at the train station honors Bowie's stay after he missed his train.
