London studio Boano Prišmontas transforms barn into private art gallery in Hertfordshire

architecture-design · 2026-04-27

London-based architecture studio Boano Prišmontas, founded in 2017 by Tomaso Boano and Jonas Prišmontas, has completed The Barn, a conversion of a traditional barn into a private art gallery in rural Hertfordshire, eastern England. The project blends tradition and modernity, using digital fabrication techniques instead of conventional construction. The arched roof was digitally manufactured with hundreds of CNC-cut timber pieces. The interior features cathedral-like high ceilings to accommodate large artworks, wood paneling, and small square windows that frame views of the surrounding countryside. The studio previously gained attention for My Room in the Garden, a prefabricated wooden home office designed during the pandemic that could be built in a day. The Barn was realized in collaboration with a digital fabrication lab, replacing traditional on-site building methods. The space is intended for art contemplation and itself becomes an artwork.
