London Spring Auctions: Rothko, Rauschenberg, and Richter Lead Christie’s and Sotheby’s Sales
From February to March 2017, the auction season for modern and contemporary art in London will kick off. Christie’s is set to auction a significant Italian collection that showcases 123 artists, which includes figures like Wade Guyton, Anish Kapoor, and notable women artists such as Cindy Sherman and Yayoi Kusama. On March 8, the Ash to Art charity auction will take place during Christie’s Day Sale, benefiting the restoration of the Mackintosh Library at the Glasgow School of Art, featuring works by Simon Starling and Grayson Perry. Additionally, the Evening Sale on March 7 will present Mark Rothko’s No. 1 and Robert Rauschenberg’s Transom. Sotheby’s will unveil the Ed Cohen and Victoria Shaw collection on March 2, highlighting Gerhard Richter’s Eisberg (1982, est. £8–12 million) on March 8.
