London Show Celebrates Mrinalini Mukherjee and Her Circle of Indian Artists

From October 31, 2025, to February 24, 2026, the Royal Academy of Arts in London will present 'A Story of South Asian Art: Mrinalini Mukherjee and Her Circle' in the Jillian and Arthur M. Sackler Wing of Galleries. This exhibition centers on the work of Mrinalini Mukherjee (1949–2015), who was raised at Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan, an extraordinary educational environment. Her large-scale sculptures, crafted from dyed and woven hemp fiber, merge elements of abstraction with nature, reflecting forms of both bodies and plants. Additionally, the show includes her mentors and contemporaries, such as her parents Leela and Benode Behari Mukherjee, KG Subramanyan, Jagdish Swaminathan, Milita Sheikh, and Gullammohammed Sheikh, showcasing their shared artistic connections.
