London's Spring Museum Highlights: Shiota, González, Samurai, Mental Health, and Wright of Derby

Five major museum exhibitions are currently on view in London through late spring. At the Hayward Gallery, Chiharu Shiota's immersive installations with beds and suspended keys explore object histories, while Yin Xiuzhen's repurposed clothing works examine migration and interconnectedness; both run until May 3. The Barbican Art Gallery presents Beatriz González, who recreated famous artworks on tiles, textiles, and furniture, often working from reproductions; her politically charged pieces reference femicide victims and displaced persons. González died just before this exhibition opened, offering UK audiences a rare look at her inventive practice until May 10. The British Museum's Samurai exhibition features armor while revealing the class's administrative and artistic roles in peacetime, highlighting numerous female warriors and pop culture connections through May 4. Bethlem Museum of the Mind hosts 'Kindred: The Loneliness of Suffering and the Community of Lived Experience,' featuring artists who have struggled with mental health, including Tracie Hodge's medication-themed work and Annabel Merrett's examination of unhelpful supportive language, on view until June 20. The National Gallery showcases Joseph Wright of Derby, contextualizing his scientific-era paintings like 'An Experiment on a Bird in the Air Pump' with prints, objects such as an orrery, and influences from Caravaggio and Rembrandt until May 10.
