London Art Week: Frieze Fairs Report Strong Sales and Crowds
During the 2022 London art week, Frieze London and Frieze Masters experienced unprecedented attendance, overcoming worries about Paris+. The VIP previews were packed, and sales flourished as a result of the weak pound enticing dollar buyers. Christie's noted a 10% rise in US clientele. At Frieze Masters, a Bruegel the Elder was sold by Johnny van Haeften for over $10 million, while David Zwirner achieved $6 million for a Kerry James Marshall. Gagosian's booth for Jadé Fadojutimi was completely sold out. Xavier Hufkens sold a Milton Avery for $250,000 and a McArthur Binion for $400,000. Tracey Emin's artwork fetched £950,000. Additionally, Italian galleries showed strong performance. A Spotlight section on 20th-century women artists, curated by Camille Morineau and AWARE, was featured at Frieze Masters.
