LOEWE Foundation/Studio Voltaire Award Announces Seven Winners for 2023-2025
The LOEWE Foundation/Studio Voltaire Award, established in 2021, has named seven winners for its 2023-2025 edition. Each recipient will receive a £5,000 bursary, a rent-free workspace, and professional support at Studio Voltaire's south London facilities for two years. Selected from over 600 applicants, the winners are Babajide Brian (drawing-based artist), Maz Murray (filmmaker, writer, performance artist), Emily Pope (visual artist working with broadcast media), Shamica Ruddock (research artist working with sound and moving image), Meera Shakti Osborne (artist and youth worker focused on collective practice), Nick Smith (video, image, and installation artist), and Ossie Williams (photographer, filmmaker, printmaker). The award aims to support under-represented artists in the UK and address the shortage of affordable studio spaces in London. Maggie Matić, curator at Studio Voltaire and panellist, noted that the cost of living crisis has intensified the need among artists, leading to a high volume of strong applications. The winners will begin their residencies in September 2023.
