Lodi's Stati Generali della Cultura to Plan New Civic Museum

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

The fourth edition of the Stati Generali della Cultura di Lodi, titled 'Fare Museo. Fare Città', will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Spazio 21 in Via San Fereolo 24, Lodi. The participatory workshop, open to all citizens, aims to prepare for the creation of a new civic museum to be housed in the former linificio (flax mill), which will become the city's new cultural hub. Mayor Andrea Furegato, leading the project alongside the informal group Cantiere Cultura, stated that the museum is intended not only to preserve and display historical collections—long stored away and inaccessible—but also to create a community space for research, knowledge, and sharing, fostering citizen participation in the city's artistic and cultural life for present and future generations. Invited professionals include Franco Achilli (exhibit and visual designer), Laura Barreca (director of the Museo civico di Castelbuono, Palermo), Valentina Galloni (head of cultural services and director of the Musei Civici di Reggio Emilia), and Davide Quadrio (director of the Museo delle Arti Orientali, Turin). The collective debate will focus on institutional sustainability, the relationship between historical collections and contemporary artistic production, and new forms of mediation, education, and participation, with the goal of creating museums that align with civic and collective imagination.
