Local Local Revives Athens Neoclassical Townhouse for Wallpaper* Directory 2026

Local Local, an architecture firm based in Athens and established by Sofia Xanthakou in 2022, has been chosen for the Wallpaper* Architects' Directory 2026. The firm emphasizes the importance of context and place, blending traditional and contemporary elements. Xanthakou perceives architecture as a continuous exploration. One of their highlighted projects, Plaka House, involves the renovation of a neoclassical townhouse from the 19th century located in Athens' Plaka area. This project includes communal spaces, bedrooms, guest and staff accommodations, an office, and a courtyard. A predominantly white color scheme enhances natural light, complemented by restored Athenian terrazzo flooring and light grey solid oak in the upper-level bedrooms. A roof terrace provides stunning views of the Acropolis. The Directory, which began in 2000, features 30 studios from different nations, curated by Ellie Stathaki.
