llabb's Genoa Duplex Renovation Blends Industrial Port Views with Historical Layers

architecture-design · 2026-04-20

The Italian architecture firm llabb has revamped a duplex in Genoa, Italy, converting a sixth- and seventh-floor residence into The Watchtower (La vedetta) for a young couple. The design captures the industrial spirit of the Genoa port, featuring a circular layout that enhances engagement with the skyline. The kitchen showcases a green peninsula and a pink vaulted ceiling, reflecting the client's culinary background. Original terrazzo flooring bears marks from WWII, while wall colors are framed above the fireplace. Custom furnishings pay tribute to architect Aldo Rossi. The upper level maintains red and white cement tiles, and the bathrooms blend terrazzo with pink Moroccan zellige tiles. The terrace provides sweeping views, connecting 1800s maritime history with the industrial landscape of 2026.
