LJ House in Ahmedabad: A Multi-Generational Home Centered on Shared Living
In Ahmedabad, India, Studio Saransh and Iksoi Studio have finalized the LJ House, a four-storey residence covering 585 square metres. Tailored for a family of six, the design draws inspiration from the traditional pol houses of the region, prioritizing communal living spaces. Mansi Mistry, the associate partner, highlighted the emphasis on social and climatic awareness over formal aesthetics. The residence features softly curved rooflines, an asymmetrical heart-shaped stairwell that enhances movement and natural light, and interconnected living areas on the ground floor that lead to courtyards. The upper levels consist of two bedrooms surrounding a shared area, with compact bedrooms allowing for more communal space. Climate-responsive design includes double-layered cavity walls and deep-set windows. Mansi Mistry spearheaded the project, with photography by Ishita Sitwala.
