Liz Diller leads architecture program at UniversoAssisi 2019

The third edition of UniversoAssisi – A festival in secret places will take place in Assisi from July 20 to 28, 2019. Internationally renowned architect Liz Diller will be the headliner of the architecture section, following Rem Koolhaas and Bjarke Ingels. Artistic director Joseph Grima aims to strengthen ties with the local territory while addressing global urgency. In the fortieth anniversary of Saint Francis being proclaimed patron saint of ecology, the festival adopts environmental sustainability as its guiding theme, declaring a plastic-free edition. New features include a redefinition of the festival's geography: the Sagrato della Basilica Superiore di San Francesco will host opening and closing events—Emozioni by Mogol (July 20) and Kronomakia with Micrologus, Patrizia Bovi, and Daniele Sepe. A Piazza dell'Architettura will be created under the arcades of the Basilica di Santa Chiara, designed by the Open Design School of Matera 2019. Piazza del Comune becomes the Agorà with daily music, talks, and performances. Architecture speakers include Liz Diller, Ila Bêka & Louise Lemoine, Beatriz Colomina, and Marc Wigley. The band Subsonica will perform on July 23 and lead a walk to Monte Subasio on July 24. A theatrical trilogy dedicated to Pier Paolo Pasolini will be produced with Il Piccolo Teatro degli Instabili, involving Lino Musella, Elena Bucci, Julia Kent, and Ramberto Ciammarughi.
