Livorno's museum system undergoes major renovation and expansion
The Livorno municipal government has revealed plans for a comprehensive overhaul of its museum system. A year ago, reinstallation efforts commenced at the Museo della Città, specifically in the Bottini dell'olio. In January 2024, the contemporary art collection, which includes pieces by Renato Guttuso and Lucio Fontana, was moved to the former Chiesa del Luogo Pio, aligning with the centenary of Gianfranco Baruchello. This relocation has allowed for the introduction of temporary exhibitions and a new section dedicated to Ancient, Medieval, and Modern themes, covering topics from archaeology to women's emancipation. Additionally, Villa Mimbelli will showcase the Medici collection, on loan from the Fondazione Annamaria Luisa De' Medici, highlighting the city's origins and its ties with the Medici family.
