Living Record Archive Launched to Honor Gaza Journalists Killed by Israel
On August 12, 2025, Writers Against the War on Gaza (WAWOG) introduced 'The Living Record,' a digital oral archive dedicated to honoring Palestinian journalists who lost their lives due to Israeli military actions in Gaza. Initially, the archive features memorials for 24 journalists, with profiles and tributes for an additional 21 expected to be included by fall. Among the oral tributes is one from independent journalist Doaa Shaheen, honoring Al Jazeera reporter Anas al-Sharif, 28, who was killed on August 10, 2025, in a targeted Israeli strike on a media tent near al-Shifa Hospital. This initiative seeks to highlight the perilous situation faced by Palestinian reporters, with approximately 240 fatalities reported by the International Federation of Journalists since October 2023. The Living Record will expand to reflect the unprecedented number of targeted journalist deaths during the Gaza genocide.
