Living Gaudí: Immersive Installation Reimagines Antoni Gaudí's Furniture in Barcelona

exhibition · 2026-08-14

BD Barcelona presented Living Gaudí, a one-night immersive installation held at La Fábrica, the former cement factory transformed by architect Ricardo Bofill into his studio, during the UIA Barcelona 2026 World Congress of Architects. The event marked the centenary of Antoni Gaudí's death and offered a new perspective on his furniture designs, moving them from museum pedestals into a natural, artisanal setting. Pieces from BD Barcelona's Gaudí collection were scattered among vegetation, bamboo, and specially designed lighting and soundscapes in El Jardín de las Delicias. A live woodworker demonstrated traditional craftsmanship, with amplified tool sounds emphasizing the role of craft in design. The installation highlighted Gaudí's deep observation of nature, presenting his organic forms as a conceptual system rather than mere decoration. BD Barcelona has produced Gaudí's furniture since 1975 and remains the only company authorized by the Real Cátedra Gaudí to manufacture these pieces, originally designed for buildings like Casa Batlló and Casa Calvet. The lighting design was by Santa & Cole, and the soundscape by Bloom studio. The event underscored BD Barcelona's five-decade commitment to preserving and updating Gaudí's design heritage.
