Liverpool Biennial 2023 Unveils Full Programme with 14-Week Festival
The Liverpool Biennial's 12th edition, named 'uMoya: The Sacred Return of Lost Things', is set to take place from 10 June to 17 September 2023. Curated by Khanyisile Mbongwa alongside Director Dr Samantha Lackey, this prominent free contemporary visual art festival in the UK will introduce new locations, including the Tobacco Warehouse and Cotton Exchange. More than 30 global artists, including Edgar Calel, Guadalupe Maravilla, and Lubaina Himid, will showcase their works in historic venues, galleries, and public spaces. Notable outdoor pieces include a neon installation by Brook Andrew at Stanley Dock, a sculpture by Eleng Luluan at Princes Dock, and Ranti Bam's work at St Nicholas Church Gardens. The event will also feature live performances, digital commissions, and a public program divided into three segments: The Opening Door, The Middle Passage, and The Reflective Return. An online talk series titled 'Radikal Self Love' will precede the festival, which explores Liverpool's colonial past and themes of healing and indigenous wisdom.
