Liu Xiaodong's Auction Dominance in China

Liu Xiaodong, born in 1963 in Jincheng, China, has maintained a strong presence in Italian exhibitions in recent years, supported by his representation at Massimo De Carlo gallery. He exhibited at De Carlo's Milan space in 2017, at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence in 2016 with site-specific works from a Tuscan residency, and at the Faurschou Foundation in Venice in 2015. Internationally, he was included in the Fondation Louis Vuitton's 2016 survey of Chinese contemporary art. His auction record stands at nearly €6 million, achieved in 2014 at Sotheby's Hong Kong for the 1996 painting 'Disobeying the Rules' (180 x 230 cm). In 2008, China Guardian Auctions sold his work for €4.6 million, and Sotheby's China followed with €4.5 million. Further sales in 2010 at Poly International Auction and Beijing Hanhai Art Auction ranged from €2.2 to €3.7 million. His market remains predominantly Chinese, with high valuations across numerous lots.
