Lithuanian artists dye lake red outside Russian embassy in protest
The Lithuanian artist collective Berta Tilmantaitė, Neringa Rekašiūtė, Rūta Meilutytė, and Aurelija Urbonavičiūtė staged the performance 'Swimming Through' outside the Russian embassy in Vilnius. They dyed a small lake in front of the embassy red to simulate blood, and Olympic swimmer Rūta Meilutytė swam through the crimson water. An aerial video shows the embassy building and the solitary swimmer. The work ends with the text 'Support Ukraine'. The artists accuse Russia of war crimes against Ukrainians and call for active resistance to indifference. The collective stated: 'It is a call not to remain neutral in the face of war. A call to actively participate in protecting the lives, freedom, and democracy of the Ukrainian people who are being tortured, raped, and killed by Russia.'
