Lita Albuquerque's New Earthworks and Palm Springs Exhibition
At the age of 80, artist Lita Albuquerque is engaged in a month-long residency at High Desert Test Sites in Joshua Tree, which was previously the residence of Andrea Zittel. In the Mojave Desert, she is developing a site-specific earthwork in partnership with Marc Breslin, incorporating ultramarine pigment orbs and a performance in Wonder Valley. This performance features her daughter, choreographer Jasmine Albuquerque, who will utilize crimson pigment. The unveiling of these works is scheduled for November 2026, shortly following her solo exhibition at the Palm Springs Art Museum. This exhibition will highlight her inaugural Mojave earthwork, Spine of the Earth (1980), along with charred remnants from the 2018 Woolsey Fire. Additionally, Albuquerque has worked with Farrington Press to produce monoprints.
