Lisette Lagnado to Co-Curate 11th Berlin Biennale with Latin American Team in 2020

festival-fair · 2026-04-23

In 2020, Lisette Lagnado will collaborate with María Berríos, Renata Cervetto, and Agustín Pérez Rubio to co-curate the 11th Berlin Biennale. This marks Lagnado's second biennial, following her involvement in the 27th São Paulo Biennial in 2006. Notably, this edition will be the second led by Latin Americans, succeeding Juan Gaitán's 2014 edition. The curatorial team emphasizes transgressive practices from Latin America. Previously, Pérez Rubio was at the helm of Malba, where he improved the visibility of female artists and curated 'Memórias inapagáveis' in 2014. Lagnado co-curated 'Desvios de la Deriva' in 2010 and directed the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage from 2014 to 2017. An independent commission selected the curators. Established in 1997, the Berlin Biennale receives around 3 million euros in funding from the German Federal Cultural Foundation.
