Lisbon's MAAT Museum Opens Full Exhibition Program in Spring 2017
The MAAT – Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, located in Lisbon and created by Amanda Levete's AL_A, is set to unveil its full 7,000 square meters on March 22, 2017, featuring three exhibitions. The main exhibit, "Utopia/Dystopia," is curated by Pedro Gadanho alongside Joao Laia and Susana Ventura, showcasing over 60 pieces from 40 global artists and architects, such as OMA, Didier Faustino, and Aldo Rossi, spanning from the 1970s to the present. This exhibition commemorates the 500th anniversary of Thomas More's "Utopia." Additionally, the show "O que Eu Sou," curated by Luiza Teixeira de Freitas and Ines Grosso, highlights contemporary Portuguese art, inspired by a 1912 poem by Teixeira Pascoaes. Lisbon is also the Ibero-American Capital of Culture for 2017, featuring over 150 events under the "Passado/Presente" initiative. From March 22 to April 24, the MAAT will host Héctor Zamora's performance-installation "Order and Progress," part of the inaugural BoCA Biennial of Contemporary Arts, which runs from March 17 to April 30 in Lisbon and Porto. Other significant architectural endeavors in Lisbon include SelgasCano's coworking space, Second Home, at Mercado de Ribeira, and the forthcoming MUDE – Museum of Design and Fashion on Rua Augusta, designed by Luis Miguel Saraiva.
